Notable Spelunking Destinations

Cave exploration is a fast growing sport amongst people of all ages, and while it can be a lot of fun, it can also be dangerous. In addition, several of the most notable spelunking destinations around the world are off limits to tourists because of the fragile cave environments that are dependent on non-interference from humans. Carlsbad Caverns, located in Southeastern New Mexico, is one of the few notable destinations frequented by tourists. This cavern once featured the largest cavern room in the world, though it was replaced by Sarawak Chamber in Malaysia. The Lechuguilla Cave, located in the same area as Carlsbad Caverns, was discovered in 1986. The cave remained undiscovered until several blockages in the underground passages were removed, in which one of the world’s most fascinating wonders was discovered. The cave is home to unique crystals and rare bacteria that feed on sulfur and iron. The final destination is Voronya cave, located in Georgia, which is the deepest cave in the world, stretching more than 6,800 feet below the surface.

Because caving has grown so popular, cavers have formed numerous societies that have developed safety precautions for cave exploration. These precautions include carrying a minimum of three LED headlamps, never venturing in a cave without a buddy, and possessing the certifications for underwater diving and exploration as needed.

When you’re out on the open water, you don’t often have a source of unlimited electrical power at your fingertips.  While you can use the power from the boat, you don’t want to deplete the battery.  Portable solar panels are essential under these circumstances, as with a solar panel, you have an unlimited source of power in the sun, and can charge batteries, power lights and lanterns, even make a hot cup of coffee in the morning!  During an ocean fishing trip portable solar panels are necessary, but solar panels are also great for hunting trips, camping, and are lightweight enough for backpacking.

Solar panel technology has undergone significant advancements in the last few years, especially as people around the world have been doing their part to support environmental wellness.  With a portable solar panel, you can rest assured that you’re doing your part to support the environment in addition to powering the devices needed for survival outdoors.

Illumination for the Outdoors

The outdoors often provides the unique opportunity to experience the sights of the natural world outside the city.  You’ll notice the stars are brighter and more numerous, and moonlight illumination is much more radiant.  However, it can also be difficult to keep your campsite illuminated when you want to perform simple tasks like cooking, dressing, or finding a place to relieve yourself in the dead of night.  For these situations LED flashlights and LED lanterns are essential.

LEDs utilize different technology than traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, and because of this technology, LEDs last longer and emit more light than other bulbs.  LED flashlights can help you with all those tasks that require just stream of light (fumbling around in the dark for example) while LED lanterns are great for those tasks that require an area to be lit, like cooking, making a fire, or just seeing the faces of those around you.

For all of us who don’t know what the hunter, fisher, and all around outdoorsman in our family wants for the holidays, here are a few ideas:

  • LED headlamp; great for trailblazing at night, or for repairing the plumbing beneath the kitchen sink.  This handy device has hundreds of potential applications.
  • Riflescope; for the hunter in the family, a quality scope will improve their accuracy and ensure months more of deer, elk, or bear sausage.
  • Fish Finder; an excellent gift for locating schools of sea and lake fish.  Even if he has one, most wouldn’t mind another!
  • Camping Stove; great for serving and eating hot meals while outdoors.
